Yumachi Kiln is located right next to Tamatsukuri Onsen, a famous hot spring called Izumo Yu no Sato in Shimane.

Founded in 1922 (Taisho 11), Yumachi Kiln is currently in its third generation under the ownership of Mr. Shuji FUKUMA and his son fourth generation Yosuke together. When you visit Yumachi kiln, where the workshop and exhibition hall are connected, you will be greeted by well-maintained greenery and flowers at the entrance. Inside the store, there are rows of yellow vessels made with a glaze called Kigusuri and blue vessels made with a glaze called Namakoyu, which instantly captivate visitors.

It's not just the beautiful vessels that captivate the visitors.
Mr.Fukuma, the owner of the Yumachi kiln, which is known as a famous pottery and won the Japan Folk Crafts Museum Award in 2011, will welcome you with a sense of humor. And its movements are truly agile and beautiful. Mr. Fukuma and his son Yosuke's work is known for its precision, waste-free, and beautiful handiwork, and this seems to apply to everything, not just tableware making.

This is the matcha and jelly we received when visited the kiln. Mr. Shuji Fukuma provided it himself. Of course, the pottery used was from Yumachi kiln. Slips are painted on the yellow glaze and sea rat glaze vessels mentioned above. Although it was summer when we visited, the jelly on the small plate looked so cool and beautiful, and it was a moment when realized once again that it is a "beautiful practical product".

The yellow glaze is made from stones collected within the prefecture, so much so that even Soetsu Yanagi said, "When you think of Izumo, you must never forget yellow glaze pottery.''Namako glaze is an ash glaze made from straw ash, and it is named as such because its complex ripples and spots, which are a mixture of shades of blue and white, resemble sea cucumbers. It seems like it is.

Speaking of Yumachi kiln, we must not forget the egg baker (pot for fried egg), which has become synonymous with Yumachi kiln. It is said that the egg baker was completed during the generation of Mr. Fukuma's father under the guidance of Bernard Leach, and the slip pattern drawn on the egg baker is also registered in the Yumachi kiln's commercial law. Since it can be heated directly over an open flame, it can be used not only for fried eggs, but also for a variety of dishes such as shrimp and mushroom ajillo, and bagna cauda sauce.

Although Yumachi kiln pottery is a practical item, it has a sense of dynamism, as if something is dwelling inside it. This includes various plates, small bowls, and cups, but pots and flower vases are no exception. We would like to introduce these things one by one.
