After training under Mr. Ichino Motoyoshi of Tanba-yaki Tanso Pottery, Mr.Motoyasu Hirayama built a climbing kiln in Tanba Sasayama and makes pottery. It is said that "MINGEI" does not simply refer to objects, but to life itself.Mr.Hirayama is a potter who practices this very thing with his family. Every word and action in daily life shapes a person, and when we observe his careful and sincere way of life, we feel that this is reflected in the pottery he makes.Himself and his pottery have a strong attitude of carefully distinguishing between meaningful and important things that seem wasteful in daily life and truly useless things, and cutting out the truly useless things.

Mr.Hirayama works alone, creates pottery in a climbing kiln several times a year. At the Japan Folk Crafts Museum exhibition in December 2015, not only the plate that won the Encouragement Award, but all of his work was praised for its high level of craftsmanship. We think his thoroughness in creating tableware that can be used on the dining table for a long time is what has earned him this high praise.

Mr.Hirayama is handsome and a very stubborn craftsman. He does not create things easy to sell, but focuses on careful work that can be used at the dinner table for a long time. The tableware made with this attitude and spirit is supported by many enthusiasts, including many chefs. When we visited his atelier and house, he served us a brew coffee in his own cup using the coffee beans he has been involved in, with his delicious homemade hospitality dishes and sweets. The tableware and the food are so beautiful and it is so perfect that you might miss what he is saying. He does not put any effort into these things, and they are part of his everyday life, and the tableware is made by his hands, body and spirit.

Please pay attention that he does not have a sales outlet in his atelier and house. He does not sell to the general public, so we ask for your understanding.
