TISTOU
Mrs. Midori ROKUJUGARI has a gentle and gentle demeanor.
When we visited the Appi lacquerware workshop in Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture, we came across her lacquered chopsticks. The octagonal design gives off a sense of dignity, but the tips of the chopsticks are not too thin and are somewhat loose, which we felt went well with Seto Hongyo Kiln's kiseto and blue and white dishes, as well as simple folk art dishes with candy glaze, ash glaze, and transparent glaze.
Her first encounter with lacquer was when she was married and living in Iwate. Iwate is well known as a producer of lacquer and lacquerware. One day, she came across a lacquer-coated bowl and was captivated by its simple yet fragrant beauty. Her desire to learn more about lacquer grew stronger, and she visited the Ajiro Lacquerware Technical Research Center at the Appi Lacquerware Workshop. This is a research center where you can learn all the processes from wood production to lacquering so that you can become an independent lacquer artist. She learned lacquerware under the guidance of Mr. Fumitaka FUJIWARA, whose products we also carry in our store.
It is said that relatively many art university graduates knock on the door of the lacquer training center, but she laughingly says that Mr.Fujiwara must have been annoyed at his teacher's failure at first because she was in a completely different field. The relationship between Mr.Fujiwara and the Mrs.gentle Rokujugari is easy to picture. After successfully graduating from the training center, she has returned to her hometown Aichi Prefecture and is working as a lacquer artist while living with her husband and two daughters.
When she visited our store "Kogei Keaton" in Setagaya, Tokyo, her husband and daughters, who love soccer, went to the stadium to watch a soccer game. Mrs.Rokujugari came to our store. Since she works as a lacquer artist while living with her family, she cannot deliver many orders immediately. Therefore, it may take some time for the next shipment to arrive, but her chopsticks will be a beautiful accent when combined with simple soup bowls and rice bowls.
